Spears are all about the reach, both horizontal and vertical. They have a C+ in Heart, a D+ in Strength and a B+ in Skill. However, their speed is very useful when you want to inflict a status ailment if your specific weapon allows it. They’re faster than most weapons, but not as strong in terms of numbers. You’d think that two swords instead of one would be stronger, but the Dual Swords are your equivalent to dagger-type of weapons in other games.
In terms of stat scaling, Swords have a B+ in Heart, a C in Strength and a C in Skill. Some might find them a little bit dull compared to the other options, but you can never go wrong with a Sword. With decent range, decent speed and decent damage, this weapon type doesn’t excel at anything but rather it’s a useful all-rounder. The Sword is the most basic of weapon types in Nioh 2. All of them receive a damage boost based on three different stats, and depending on which weapons you end up favoring, you might want to lean towards those specific stats. Still, it is important to know how each weapon type scales with your stats. In the long run, that bonus doesn’t mean much since you’ll be leveling up quite fast, and you will be able to find the weapons you don’t pick almost immediately.
The game lets you try out all of the weapon types for a little bit before deciding, and each weapon type gives you a different bonus of +1 to a specific stat. Weapon Types and Stat Scaling: know your weaponsĪt the beginning of the game, you can pick your first two weapons. You can always equip two weapons at a time, so take all of this into consideration in order to build your perfect yokai slayer. This all feeds into your character development and eventually picking the best build and weapon combination for your character, as you'll of course ultimately be using a pair of weapons. With so much variety, it’s important to know what each weapon does and how do they scale with your stats. As if that wasn’t enough, the stance system means every weapon has three different ways in which you can use them! Nioh 2 even adds all the weapon types from the first game’s DLC and some completely new types. Like we said in our review, there’s a wide variety of weapons for you to choose from, each one with their pros and cons.

On top of that any stance can be transitioned into a Quickdraw ki pulse cancel of 3 different types.Whether you’re new to the series or you’re a returning player from the first game, you should know that in Nioh 2 combat is everything. The kick slam attack at the end of a combo is also fairly powerful. So is the low stance as it's so fast it will interrupt anything on bosses and yokai out of ki. A regular high stance combo can transition into a devastating double flip slam. High stance is great for enemies low on the ground and also drains ki through blocks with decent damage on the heavy attack. Medium stance is my bread and butter with the regular attack+kick to drain ki and the parry for humanoid enemies.
Each has a place and learning to switch between them in combat has been very satisfying. The katana very much has a slow, power stance, a medium all rounder stance and a fast spam stance. I'm not even sure how you maniacs are playing without them.Įasy, they don't have Iai Quickdraw ki pulse cancels.įrom what I've seen, all dual swords stances are too fast and lack impact. I generally find I can use any weapon I pick up and not immediately hate the way it handles. For me, a lot of weapon types just feel shitty to play with. Sure, all weapons can be good in Dark Souls, but I think what I was trying to say is that I don't feel like they're all viable. Negligible in boss fights and fighting most Yokai.
If I am at 50% health, I'll come out of the average fight with 65% health if I didn't get hit. I don't think that's a flaw of the It doesn't steal a ton of health though. But you can be extremely dangerous with a Katana, you just have to pick the right one. If you go for Katana's for instance, depending on your build, yes some of them will be bad. They also can have (slightly) different movesets. There are just some individual weapons within each class that are better or worse depending on what you're doing. Depends how you look at it, but all weapon classes in Dark Souls are completely viable.
